The mission of the Society is to enhance the improvement and development of thermal and nuclear power generating technology and through this to contribute to the economic progress in Japan.
The Society is now working towards these goals by focusing in three major areas, in cooperation with relevant governmental agencies, electric power companies and related manufacturers, namely;

  • Today, with a membership of over 15,000, the Society is vigorously engaged in the drive to meet its objectives.

    1950 The "Thermal Power Research Association" was established in Tokyo.
    1954 The Association was renamed as "Thermal Power Engineering Society"The Society itself and its Articles were approved by MITI (the Ministry of International Trade and Industry).
     
    1980 The name of the Society was changed again into "Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering Society".
    1981 The Society was designated by MITI as the organization to qualify responsible persons in nuclear power plant operation.
    2001 Designation of the Society as the qualification organization was cancelled by METI (the Ministry of Economic, Trade and Industry ).
    2002 Three groups of the Secretariat was reorganized as General Affairs Department, Thermal Power Department and Nuclear Power Department.

    Organization of members
      Member of the Society is mainly consisted of technical engineers in various groups such as electric power companies, civil engineering work companies, research institutes, factories of industrial steam power plants, various equipment manufacturers, etc.
